Naomi Lungu
University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Lusaka, Zambia

Clinical interest: Obstetrics and gynaecology

“I had wanted to visit a major teaching hospital in an urban setting of a developing country at some point during my time as a medical student and my junior elective seemed like the ideal opportunity to make this a reality. I wanted to experience medicine in a resource constricted setting as well as experiencing the kind of teaching that other medical students were receiving in this setting. I wanted to go to an English speaking country that is in Sub-Saharan Africa where I would be safe to travel and move around freely. I guess Zambia fulfilled all this criteria. Zambia is a beautiful country which is a fairly popular destination for tourists from all over the world so I knew that there would be plenty to do outside of placement. I spent the first part of my life there so I am very familiar with the culture.”
