Peter Cranefield
Anandaban Leprosy Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal

Clinical interest: Anaesthetics

“I learnt so much; of course about leprosy, surgery and tropical medicine, but also about the wider roles of a doctor in managing people and resources. I was enthused about working abroad, while aware of the possible isolation, and by surgery, at a time when my first jobs have to be applied for and I’m forced to think what I really want to do. It was humbling to head into the Himalayas and inspiring to meet lots of people who have the treatment, prevention and eradication of leprosy as a work ethos.”
