Tony Fordham
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, United Kingdom

Clinical interest: Paediatrics

“Deciding to stay in the UK to complete my elective was not an easy decision. My rationale was threefold: I wanted first-hand experience of Paediatrics and subspecialties in a world-renowned tertiary centre based in the UK. I wanted to use my time productively to boost my CV – either by completing an audit or research in a field that I know to be competitive, and I also wanted a taste of the London lifestyle in order to see if this area was somewhere I could envisage myself working in the future. I knew from previous placements at Alder Hey Hospital and Liverpool Women’s Hospital that the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) departments see complex cases that require discussion and input from multiple teams, and I envisaged being able to shadow many disciplines and subspecialties working with children within the ICU departments during my elective period.”
