Prince Wellington Ngu Hospital Talau, Tonga
The Prince Wellington Ngu Hospital is a small hospital that services the people of the northern islands of Tonga. It is the district hospital for the Vava’u island group in Northern Tonga, but is only equipped to deal with minor cases, people requiring more comprehensive medical care are sent to the hospital on Tongatapu. Although the hospital is not large it does have a medical laboratory that can run blood cultures. There are eight nurses supporting the two doctors. You will come across a lot of diabetes diseases because of many obesity cases.
The hospital also participates in the Pacific Partnership, an international contingent of doctors, nurses, optometrists and dentists, which boosts the medical coverage for the islands each year; in 2011, the Partnership was at Prince Wellington Ngu Hospital between the 14th and 21st April.
