This elective is organised through Projects Abroad.
The Hospital is 20km from the main tourist attraction in Chitwan, Sauraha. The Chitwan Medical College Teaching Hospital (CMCTH) is a Private community hospital established with the intention of providing quality health services at an affordable price for the local community.
CMCTH started its OPD services in August 2008 and indoor services started in September 2008. Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with the capacity of eight well-equipped beds, opened in May 2009. An eight-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has now been opened as well. Since the Hospital began, the number of patients in OPD, and the Emergency and indoor clinics, has rapidly increased (with more than 500 per day in OPD). An average of 65% of these patients per day is in the Emergency clinic, and indoor occupancy is more than 80% of the 500 beds. The construction of the ground and first floors of the CMCTH are complete and in operation. The Hospital is yet to complete the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.
Please note that this hospital does cater to the larger community. They charge reduced amounts for those who require it. For example the treatment in the OPD they charge Rs.50 for OPD whereas similar institution would charge Rs.350 for a general consultation. For the most complex surgery the amount the patients pays is Rs.10,000 whereas same surgery in other similar private institutions patients would look to pay a minimum of Rs.60000.
In addition Projects Abroad does make contributions to the hospital. This money is sent to the hospitals trust fund. Please note that the Hospitals own doctors, nurses and other staff members also contribute towards this every month from their own salary. This is to ensure that they do have provision to support poorer patients and can carry on the hospitals vision.
