Panadura Base Hospital was established in 1926 and caters mainly to people from the Panadura District. This hospital has 11 consultants, 75 medical officers, 7 registered medical officers and 7 dental surgeons. It has 116 nurses, 1 matron and 5 nursing sisters. It has about 154 minor staff members. On average the hospital performs 2 major surgeries and 15 minor surgeries each day. This Base Hospital has several wards but the medical superintendent has given permission for volunteers only to be in 3 different departments namely: General Medicine, Surgery and Paediatrics. Volunteers are only allowed to go to General Medicine, Surgery and Paediatrics. Volunteers will have to work minimum of 1 week per department. General Medicine has two separate wards, one for female patients and one for male patients same goes to Surgery Wards. General Medicine has bed capacity of 53, for male ward while 35 for female ward. Surgery has bed capacity of 45, for male ward while 19 for the female ward. Paediatric has bed capacity of 54.

For Medical Student volunteers a letter from you university stating you are medical student is required.
