This elective is organised by Projects Abroad.

The Karapitiya Teaching Hospital is funded by the Government. It is a very large hospital with many different units. It employs 400 doctors and 750 nursing staff. This teaching hospital is a specialized hospital taking in local medical students in their 3rd year who are doing their clinical rotation.
The hospital is open 24 hours a day but volunteers are expected to work from 08:00 to 16:00 with a one hour lunch break (usually 12:00 – 13:00).

Physiotherapy Volunteers: Will be assigned to work in the physiotherapy department. Qualified physiotherapists will be guaranteed hands-on work.

Pre-med and Medical Volunteers: Mrs.Koswatte will be assigning pre-med/medical volunteers on daily basis to specific departments they can work with. If volunteers would want to spend more time in a a particular department they can request from Mrs.Koswatte.
