The hospital, like many in Madagascar, is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and provides a range of services; it is also one of the most renowned hospitals in Madagascar.
The hospital was part of a 1990s World Health Organisation initiative to recover the costs of medical care in hospitals in developing countries.
