The SSRN Hospital was opened in 1969 and is situated in the district of Pamplemousses, providing services for the districts of Pamplemousses and Rivière du Rempart.
It is the largest hospital in Mauritius with 563 beds. As well as providing major services such as Accident & Emergency, Orthopaedic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics, there is also an intensive cardiac care unit with 8 beds and a neurosurgical and renal unit with 28 beds.
The hospital is extremely busy. The wards are in a poor state and resources are often scarce.

Well organised and English spoken widely as well as French and the native Creole. Popular with many UK students especially Surgery.
