Founded on December 7, 1871, its construction was the result of the State’s concern about excessive infant mortality and epidemics of smallpox and cholera that affected the country periodically.
The emergency services facilities were rebuilt in 1997.
In 1995, thanks to funding awarded by the Ministry of Health to the National Transplant Program, the number of renal surgeries was exponentially increased.
