Senanga District Hospital (SDH) is located in rural western Zambia. The hospital is a referral hospital with four wards (female, male, maternity, and pediatrics). The hospital has also acted as a referral hospital for the neighbouring Shangombo region, as this region was in need of a dedicated hospital, construction of which began in 2009.
SDH is often under-resourced and has previously suffered from a lack of incubators to care for premature children, though the Ministry of Health is making inroads into increasing the amount of equipment that the hospital has available. The hospital is kept quite clean, though it may not match the standards to which students are accustomed in the UK.
Senanga is located on the eastern banks of the Zambezi.
