The Kwekwe General Hospital was founded in 1900 and is a teaching and referral hospital in Kwekwe District, though it also draws patients from the adjoining Zhombe District. The hospital is government-run and is administrated by the Kwekwe City Council. It is one of a number of hospitals in the Midlands Province that is able to offer free anti-retroviral therapy to people with HIV/AIDS. Kwekwe also provides a range of services to HIV/AIDS patients from neighbouring districts like Gokwe.
The hospital also caters for the surrounding rural areas, with patients being referred to it from the rural health centres to undergo more complex treatment.
