Sometimes called the Hospital Nacional de Coatepeque, the Hospital Nacional Juan Jose Ortega has been operating for over half a century. It was initially opened in 1953 and has continued to provide a range of services to the local population throughout its history. The hospital was elevated to the category of ‘regional hospital’ in 2009 and is held in good standing in the country.
The hospital has a stated mission of ensuring the right to health for community residents and people in the surrounding areas and seeks to exercise stewardship of the health sector through leadership, co-ordination, and regulation of health services.
