The hospital Dr Roberto Suazo Cordova was opened in 1984, but was not fully completed until 1985. Located in the Honduran department of La Paz, the hospital is a regional referral hospital and accepts patients from all over the department, so serves a collective population of some 173,000 people. Despite its referral status, the hospital is quite small, with only 65 beds, although it does provide a range of general medical and specialty services.
The hospital has previously received support from the U.S. military unit that was stationed at Palmerola.
