The Hospital De Puerto Cortes is located in the neighborhood of Cieneguita, which is four miles from downtown Port of Honduras. It is situated on land donated by the municipality and its first director was a man named Dr. Austin Beaumont. The hospital is in a coastal region of Honduras and is classified as a regional hospital. In 2011 it received an ambulance, which was donated by the Taiwanese government; it also received new x-ray equipment from the Honduran Ministry of Health. This is part of an ongoing development programme as the Ministry of Health in Hoduras pledged, in early 2011, that a new hospital would be built in Puerto Cortes as the existing building was severely damaged in the 2009 earthquake, an effect which has been worsened by proximity to the sea.
The hospital is a very busy institute treating in excess of 100,000 patients annually.
