The Hospital Nacional Psiquiatrico Santa Rosita is a national psychiatric care facility located in the village of Santa Rosita, in the Valley of Amarateca, which is about 30 kilometres from the city of Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital. The hospital was built in 1970 and became a specialist Psychiatric Hospital in 1976 following the transfer of the psychiatric wing of the Hospital General San Felipe. The hospital is situated in tranquil surroundings in a mountainous region of Honduras.
The hospital has the stated mission to be a national referral hospital for mental health patients and it is administered by the Secretariat of Health in Honduras. It is focussed on providing secondary and tertiary care within the mental health field, in addition to providing comprehensive assistance for patients who suffer from psychiatric disorders.
The hospital uses a system of new psychotherapeutic models, extension, training and intersectoral coordination in service, thereby creating the conditions of accessibility, and social participation in patient management and treatment. This is further enhanced by providing short, medium and long term facilities. The hospital is comprised of three main sections: Administrative and General, Supplementary and Final; Outpatients; and specialised psychiatry and psychology. The hospital strives to be a leading Hospital, dedicated to community psychiatry and institutional psychotherapy. The National Hospital serves a range of mental illnesses including, Adult Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, an Alcohol Unit, Intermediate Care and support services such as Clinical Laboratory, Pharmacy, Psychology and Dentistry.
