Part of the Western Regional Health Authority, the Cornwall Regional Hospital is a fairly large institute, which serves Jamaica’s second largest city of Montego Bay. Facilities include General Medical wards, General Surgical Wards, Orthopaedics, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), at least 2 operating theatres, a psychiatric department, a busy Accident and Emergency department, paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, a dialysis unit a doctors’ lounge with internet access and a library with internet access.
The hospital represents a very large investment by the Jamaican government and for a long time was one of the most sophisticated facilityies of its kind in the world. The hospital is classified as a Type ‘A’ hospital in the Jamaican medical system as it provides specialist services; it is also the only hospital outside Kingston that is able to provide a range of specialist services.
Cornwall Regional Hospital has also been verified as Baby Friendly, practicing all the “10 steps to successful breastfeeding” by WHO/UNICEF.
