Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre is a specialist hospital for psychiatric, geriatric and substance abuse services. It is a national centre that includes a maximum-security unit, child and family guidance centre, drug unit, detox and evaluation unit, alcoholic unit and day hospital facilities. Services for rehabilitation include a special education programme, recreation therapy, occupational therapy and psychological evaluation.
The hospital is under the auspices of the Public Hospitals Authority and we originally opened in 1956. The Centre is located in the eastern district of New Providence on Fox Hill Road and although made of several units, primarily consists of two hospitals: the Geriatric Hospital, which cares for the elderly with medical, social and psychiatric problems and has five in-patient wards; and the Sandilands Hospital, which cares for mentally and physically challenged children, adolescent and adult clients. The Sandilands Hospital presently consists of nine in-patient psychiatric wards.
