The Ruijin Hospital is crowded but exceptionally well equipped and combines traditional chinese with western medicine. Originally opening in 1907 as the St Marie Hospital, it is now renowned throughout China for the care that it provides to patients and is classed as a grade three, class A hospital in the Chinese healthcare system.
The hospital is affiliated to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and is one of the main teaching hospitals for the medical school. The hospital also employs some world renowned medical scientists.
