Located in Punta Paitilla, the Centro Medico Paitilla \(Paitilla Medical Centre) is one of the oldest private hospitals in Panama. It was founded in 1975 and provides a wide range of services for the local population with an ethos of “community-hospital medical services of excellence.”
The Centro Medico Paitilla employs doctors and consultants from all the major medical specialties, a sizeable proportion of whom have performed principal residences in the United States, and Europe. The hospital has a state-of-the-art Oncology Unit and a variety of other well-equipped departments, including Radiology and Imaging Services, Laboratory and Anatomical Pathology, a Critical Care Unit for Infants and Adults and a minimally invasive Cardiac Catheterization Unit.
The hospital maintains a keen interest in medical developments to maintain up-to-date facilities but has also been a pioneering institution in Panama and Latin America, introducing new technologies to assist physicians and patients in diagnosis and timely treatment. It also has a department of Nuclear Medicine.
The hospital also runs two affiliate programs with American medical institutions: The Methodist Health Care Network Inc., of Houston, Texas and the Baptist Health Systems of South Florida. In addition, Centro Medico Paitilla maintains an academic agreement with the Cleveland Clinic, which is a well-recognised hospital based in the United States.
