The Hospital Del Nino is the largest paediatric, public hospital in Panama. It officially opened in 1950 and has since become the premier public children’s hospital in the country. The hospital offers all of the major paediatric specialties and parents being their children from all over the country for treatment at this institution. The hospital works very closely with Hospital Santo Tomas, which is a large public referral hospital situated next door. The hospital obstetrics and neonatal teams often crossover between the hospitals to provide the best care possible for expectant mothers and their newborns.
The hospital is dedicated to the provision of child care services with an emphasis on solving complex problems and promoting the physical, mental and social development of children through comprehensive care. It is classed as a third level hospital in Panama (a referral hospital).
