St Vincentius Ziekenhuis

District General Hospital | Paramaribo, Suriname

Hospital description

The St Vincentius Ziekenhuis Hospital is a private medical institution that was established in the capital city of Parambiro in 1916. The hospital was originally established by a religious order; the Congregation of the Sisters of Love. The hospital has undergone three noticeable expansions since it was established, these took place in 1964, 1976 and 1978.

The hospital operates through four main wards; a children’s ward with a sub department for neonatology, a nursing ward with intensive care facilities for five patients, an operating ward with four operating rooms and recovery ward, and a delivery ward. The hospital is well-staffed and funded in part through donations. This is an unusual hospital due to the fact that the specialists who work at the hospital are not employees. Instead, they rent the polyclinic facilities from the hospital and are obliged to have their patients clinically hospitalised and treated in the hospital.
