The Sudanese Refugee Project is based at a hospital for displaced Sudanese immigrants in Egypt. It displays an impressive medical programme and is funded by the Joint Relief Ministry and voluntary donations. Many of the refugees are not granted official refugee status, so they are unable to work and are concentrated into a very poor district of Cairo.
The Joint Relief Ministry (JRM) is an ecumenical organisation that is part of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt. The Church of St John the Baptist and All Saints Cathedral in Cairo are the base for the JRM’s compassionate ministry.
