The Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan has been in existance as a district hospital for over 100 years, opening its doors in 1904. It is located in the centre of Kuantan, the state capital and provides a range of services to the local population. The hospital is located in Pehang province and is also used by students at the International Islamic University Malaysia for research (at the Clinical Research Centre which opened in 2003) and practical education, such as electives and rotations. The hospital began operations in its current buildings in 1983.
