The hospital is situated 35 miles north-west of Nairobi on the escarpment of the Rift Valley. It is operated by the African Inland Church sharing the Kijabe mission station with a bible college, church, secondary schools, and printing press. The staff consists of 4 doctors, 24 Kenyan nurses and 7 expatriate nurses. The hospital works to provide medical, surgical, and obstetric care for both local residents and as a referral centre. A public health team visits 16 villages in the vicinity once a month. There is a registered nurse training school, general training, a midwifery and public health nursing as well as a link with Kapsowar for experience. The hospital also has a fully equipped laboratory with a lab technician training school.
