Auburn Hospital is an acute care health facility on the eastern border of Western Sydney Area Health Service, situated four kilometres from the Homebush Bay Olympic site and nineteen kilometres from Sydney. The original hospital was built in 1907 and had only eighteen beds – however, a recent $145 million refurbishment programme has transformed the original site to the bright, welcoming healthcare facility it is today. The hospital, which has a team of staff and volunteers of around seven hundred, serves a culturally diverse community of 60,000 – many of whom originate from a non-English speaking background. Auburn Hospital also has an affiliated Health Care Community Centre, which specialises in health promotion and education, this gives an opportunity to address the wide range of issues originating from an ethnically diverse community
