Bristol Royal Infirmary

Referral/Teaching Hospital | Bristol, United Kingdom

Hospital description

This hospital has previously supported PJ and Famulatur placements.

The Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) is a teaching hospital with close links to Bristol University and provides acute medicine and surgery, critical care, trauma, orthopaedic and accident & emergency services to the population of the southern part of Bristol. It also provides the centre for cardio-thoracic services for the southwest region. There are also plans to add a helicopter landing pad to the infirmary.

It is currently undergoing an extensive redevelopment, which is due to be completed in 2016. The redevelopment is designed to bring all of the hospital services into one modern site, decommissioning the old buildings, which have been in use since 1735. The redevelopment will see the hospital bed numbers decrease by about one quarter but the new model of care that is being developed in concert with the redevelopment project is anticipated to circumvent oversubscription of patient beds.
