St George’s is one of the UK’s largest teaching hospitals and shares its main hospital site in Tooting, southwest London, with the renowned St George’s University of London which trains NHS staff and carries out advanced medical research.
The Trust provides all the usual care you would expect from a local NHS hospital – such as accident and emergency, maternity services and care for older people and children – but, as a major acute hospital, St George’s also offers very specialist care for the most complex of injuries and illnesses, including trauma, neurology, cardiac care, renal transplantation, cancer care and stroke.
With over 6,000 staff and around 1,000 beds, St George’s serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling about 3.5 million people.
