The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton is the newest hospital in the East Midlands; opened in April 2010 the hospital now cares for more than 180,000 people as inpatients, outpatients, emergency patients and day cases. It has the first roof top helipad in the East Midlands, state-of-the-art intensive care facilities and enhanced services for stroke and cancer care. They also have improved privacy for patients with more than 200 single en-suite rooms and 4-bed bays for patients on wards.
The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton also incorporates the Derbyshire Children’s Hospital. The children’s out-patient department provides excellent care and expert management for all general paediatric medical and surgical conditions, as well as many specialist problems. The children’s emergency department (accident and emergency) reviews over 25,000 children and young people per year. All patients are seen by trained paediatric staff in child-friendly surroundings.
