Armidale has a large Aboriginal community. Armidale Aboriginal Medical Service provides a diverse range of medical services for local Aboriginal communities through outreach clinics.
They offer programs on ‘healthy hearts, cancer, asthma, diabetes, women’s health, correctional health, breast screening, community care and consultation, podiatry, optometry, counselling and social and emotional wellbeing.’
This service opened in 1993 with only six members of staff. Since then it has expanded its numbers to thirty.
