Derriford Hospital is a large acute general hospital serving Plymouth and nearby areas in Devon and Cornwall. It offers a range of highly specialist treatments such as heart and lung surgery and cardiology services, kidney transplants, neurosurgery, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery to a population of up to two million people across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset. It also provides tertiary Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Upper GI surgery and Renal Transplant surgery for the whole of the South West Peninsula. There is also a wide range of medical specialties ranging from hepatology, nephrology, and neonatology to oncology, dermatology and gastroenterology. Derriford is a designated Major Trauma Centre and as such receives helicopter and ambulance trauma referrals from all over the South West Peninsula.

Derriford is partnered with the University of Plymouth and hosts the highly successful Peninsula Medical School.
