Founded in 1804, Moorfields Eye Hospital is one of the leading centres for eye health in the world. Together with the University College London (UCL) Institute of Ophthalmology, which is adjacent to the hospital, it forms the world’s largest site for eye care and research. The hospital receives tertiary referral cases from throughout the United Kingdom and further afield. Over 260,000 patients are seen and 24,000 ophthalmic operations are carried out annually.

The hospital is well-regarded for its expertise, it has excellent clinical staff and is at the forefront of research in the field. Many of the ophthalmologists practising in the UK, and many more overseas, have received specialist training at Moorfields.
