Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford was originally built as a sanatorium for TB patients in 1940 and was known as Essex General Hospital. Since TB decreased new services and wards have been added, including a new maternity unit, wards and daycare centre. It is the main hospital site housing Accident and Emergency services and the Regional Burns and Plastic Centre (St Andrews).
