Quite a large hospital owned and administered by the Brisbane Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy. The hospital owns the busiest paediatric department in Queensland, and is one of three hospitals run by the Sisters of Mercy to treat uninsured patients in Queensland, inkeeping with their ethics of “compassionate service to the sick and needy.”
The hospital is a major tertiary referral centre providing an intensive care unit, theatres, inpatient and outpatient services and a 24 hour emergency department. Each year, the hospital treats approximately 167,00 children, and more than 32,000 of that number receive care in the emergency department – the busiest paediatric emergency department in Queensland.
