The Gaths Mine Hospital was downgraded to a clinic in 2009 following the plummeting prices of the mine export – asbestos. This clinic is a central resource to the local population, who otherwise have to travel over 20 kilometres for medical treatment. The clinic is located Mashava in the Matebeleland region of Zimbabwe. The Gaths mine was recently taken over by the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) which may begin to reinvest in the clinic.
