“Please be advised that the International Visiting Elective Student Programme at our teaching and satellite hospitals (Groote Schuur Hospital, Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, New Somerset Hospital and Victoria Hospital) has been temporarily suspended while we conduct a review of the programme and its impact on the clinical training platform. Only students registered at South African medical schools may continue to apply for an elective placement.” Please email Jade if you are interested in the programme and she will let you know if it is now running

This is the South African equivalent of Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. The hospital cares for around 200,000 children each year. Children with particular problems are referred to the hospital from all over South Africa and from many other countries in the region.
