Falkirk and District Royal Infirmary provides a wide range of health services for local people as well as planned medical and surgical services for patients across Forth Valley. It is arelatively small hospital but provides a comprehensive range of medical services.
The supervising health authority for the hospital is currently undertaking a project to transform healthcare across Forth Valley and as part of this initiative, the acute services currently provided at Falkirk will be gradually moved across to the new Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbet. This process was slated to begin in August 2011.
The Falkirk Hospital will then be reroled into a community hospital (on the same site) to ensure that care provision in a wide range of health services is still provided locally. These services will include dental services, speech and language therapy, dietetics, sexual health and psychology.
Around 100 community-based inpatient beds will also be provided for Falkirk patients who require rehabilitation, palliative and continuing care. Up to 86 of these beds will be provided on the community hospital site either in a new purpose-built, facility equipped with single en-suite rooms or within existing modern ward accommodation. A small number of elderly mental health beds will also be provided on the Stirling Community Hospital site in modern ward accommodation which better meets the needs of patients and staff.
