Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) replaces the former Erinville, St Finbarrs and the private Bon Secours maternity hospital on the site at Cork University Hospital. CUMH opened in March 2007 and is integrated with Cork University Hospital, both hospitals now share a campus. In 2008, there were 8,786 births in Cork University Maternity Hospital making it the third largest maternity unit in Ireland.
Staff at the hospital enjoy caring for mothers and their families in this new state-of-the-art facility, which inludes robot assisted surgery to provide the best care for both mother and baby. The new CUMH is located at the southern end of the Cork University Hospital campus, in what was previously a greenfield area to the front of the main Ward Building.
As part of the Cork University Hospital campus this hospital has a sound teaching and research ethos and there are usually students around the hospital as it is a teaching establishment.
