The Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Dooradoyle is a large hospital in the west of Ireland. It has a big Accident and Emergency department, which has been transferred to this location from the Ennis General Hospital (also in the region) and it is also a specialist Oncology facility. In December 1995 approval was granted for the redevelopment of the existing regional hospital into a state of the art modern facility with the full range of treatment, diagnostic, medical, social and general services department and the staff facilities required to service the outpatient and in-patient needs of the catchment area which is some 300,000 people.
This hospital now provides an extensive range of medical services. These include: Out-Patient Department Endoscopy Unit, Renal Dialysis, Intensive Care, Coronary Care and twelve Theatres; Paediatric Unit, Department of Radiology, Pathology, Physiotherapy, C.S.S.D. Accident & Emergency; Pulmonary function; Cardiovascular Department, Audiology, Neurophysiology Department, Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Education centre, library and School of Nursing.
It has 375 beds and 97 day beds, along with 50 inpatient psychiatry beds.
