The Mallow General Hospital was built in 1936 and is located on the Limerick Road in Mallow, North Cork. The hospital has 76 inpatient beds and 5 day beds, as well as hosting General Medical, General Surgical and ENT services. The hospital serves a population of between 85,000 – 90,000 people and works in close collaboration with primary care physicians. The hospital is classed as a secondary care facility and services the population of Mallow and the huge hinterland of North Cork. The hospital also has close links with tertiary care centres in Cork city.
The hospital also supports a well-equipped Radiology Department, which includes a CT scanner and the ambulance base for North Cork. Other facilities in the Hospital include an active Laboratory. A Physiotherapy Department provides care for in-patients and out-patients.
Part of the Cork University Hospital Group, Mallow is also involved in teaching nursing, medical, and paramedical students. An in-service education programme is co-ordinated by the hospital’s Clinical Development Co-ordinator. However, some of the services offered by the hospital are offered only on a visiting basis, so students interested in the below areas are advised to check that the appropriate service will be available when they are on their elective placement.
