Elim Hospital is located on ‘Open Africa’s Ribolla Route’ in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. It has been a place of caring for over 100 years. It was established by Swiss missionaries in 1899, the hospital was the only medical facility in the far north of South Africa. At one stage there were 600 Swiss living at Elim. The original hospital has been turned into a museum, within the modern medical complex.
The Elim hospital has always been well known for the good reputation of its optometrist division. People travel as far away as 350km for eye treatment here and it has now been declared a National Monument since it celebrated its 100th year of establishment.
