Corozal Community Hospital is a small and quiet hospital but has been undergoing a series of upgrades since 2008. The hospital has a strong local representation and before the current Chief of Staff, Dr. Nelson Marin, took over in 2009, was administrated by Nurse Guillermina Heredia, who had practised as a nurse for 25 years in Corozal and who came out of retirement to function as Deputy Regional Health Manager during the development phase of the hospital.
Due to the number of recent upgrades, including the installation of an ultrasound machine, an x-ray machine and a bone density machine, the hospital is becoming a place where citizens of the district can feel comfortable and cared for. It was also awarded “Baby Friendly” status in December 2008 in recognition of its redevelopment and refurbishment of the Maternity ward.
