The Alfredo da Matta Foundation is directly related to the progress of Hansen’s disease (leprosy) in the State of Amazonas, Brazil. It coordinates and carries out activities related to disease control at state levels, by performing dermatological exams for different population groups. It basic objectives are aimed at active case-finding; training for medical students and other health professionals from local to international level in diagnosis and treatment, and supervising units in both the capital city of Manaus and in the interior in their efforts to control this endemic disease.
