Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which governs the Chesterfield Royal Hospital, provides a full range of acute services – plus 24-hour accident and emergency care, and specialist children’s services. The hospital serves a large population in North Derbyshire – a catchment of around 375,000.
The hospital opened in 1984, following a seven-year building programme. It is sited one mile outside of Chesterfield, close to the M1 on a greenfield site. It replaced cramped and outdated facilities in the centre of the town. The Trust also manages a small midwifery led birth centre in Darley Dale, near Matlock in Derbyshire, as well as a range of specialist children’s services in the community.
