Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre is a multidisciplinary sports medicine centre located in the Sydney Academy of Sport at Narrabeen, and has been operating for over two decades. The Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation is located on the beautiful northern beaches, only 40 minutes from the central business district of Sydney. This would be an ideal elective for students with a special interest in sports medicine and rehabilitation. It offers excellent teaching in an amazing location.
Although many patients are elite athletes from across the whole range of sports, many of the patients are ordinary members of the community who can benefit from exercise as medicine. Narrabeen is a leading institute for sports medicine and Australia, along with seventeen other countries around the world, including New Zealand, now recognises this specialty.
All of the sports physicians at the centre are Fellows of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians which is the body accredited for post-graduate training in sports and exercise medicine. These physicians work alongside consultant orthopaedic surgeons, massage therapists, sports medicine trained physiotherapists, a podiatrist and sports dietitian, so Narrabeen is able to provide comprehensive, tailored services to all patients.
