South Tyneside District Hospital (STDH) provides a vast range of medical services in the South Tyneside Borough, ranging from an Accident and Emergency Department, which operates 24 hours a day and sees in the region of 55,000 people annually, to Urology. Although a comparatively small provider of hospital services, South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the STDH, is consistently ranked highly by inspecting organisation. Indeed, The Healthcare Commission (an independent inspecting body) listed ratings of ‘Excellent’ for the quality of services and ‘Excellent’ for the use of resources provided at this hospital.

It has also been independently stated that the staff at this hospital are knowledgeable and well practised in the importance of maintaining national standards such as infection control and the STDH maintains some of the lowest infection rates in the UK.
