This 30 bed hospital runs an outpatient department, a busy obstetric department, and has male and female wards for medical and surgical patients. The hospital is well-stocked with drugs and sterile equipment, although any aids and donations are much appreciated. Accommodation is freely available in the form of a fully furnished 3-bedroom apartment with kitchen, living and dining. There is a source of clean water supply and heating. Meals can be taken at the staff cafeteria or at the doctor’s mess (a separate small hut) and the food is always freshly prepared by the local cook Sohail. KCH is located in a primarily Muslim region of Garhi Habibullah town of the Mansehra distict in the North-West Frontier Proince of Pakistan. Prior to the 7.6 earthquake in October 2005, local support for the mission hospital had been non-existent. Located 10 miles from the quake’s epicenter, Kunhar Christian Hospital was the only hospital still standing, with staff and electricity intact when the disaster struck.
