This is a small district hospital set up in the rural Kiteto district of Tanzania, in a small town called Kibaya. It is halfway between Moshi and Dodoma, and only accessible by dirt track. They have 6 or 7 doctors working there, and although they have general specialties they will manage any problem that comes throught the door. They have a small operating theatre and are able to perform simple operations such as caesarean sections, appendectomies and diagnostic laparotamies. In one day you may see malaria and measles on a paediatric ward round, help perform a C-section, manage orthopaedic cases and take a general outpatient clinic. The language of Tanzania is Swahili, but the Kiteto district is very tribal so they speak Maasai and Gogo as well. However, the doctors learn medicine in English, so understanding what they say and what is written in the notes is not a problem.
