The hospital is privately owned by the Rhoen-Klinikum AG, the first privately owned university hospital in Germany. 395,000 patients are treated in 80 clinics each year.

The hospital has a specialist Heart centre which deals with both Cardiac medicine and Cardiothorassic surgery.
