Kiel, the most northerly town in Germany, is located on the Baltic Sea (Kiel Fjord) and is the terminus of the worldwide most frequented artificial waterway, the Kiel Canal.
The University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein is one of the largest in Europe. The hospital is spread over two locations, one in Kiel and one in Lübeck. It is the only Medical Centre in the whole of Germany which has two medical faculties; the Christian-Albrecht University in Kiel and the University of Lübeck.
Reason for that: According to a decision of the state government of Schleswig-Holstein, the University Clinics of Kiel and Lübeck have been merged to build together the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) since 2003, while maintaining the existing sites (University Medical Centre campus Luebeck and University Medical Centre Campus Kiel). The then newly founded UKSH is run as an institution under public law in the sponsorship of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The hospital has more than 70 highly specialised departments that offer modern, high-performance medical treatment.
On this page, contact details are only given for Kiel University. Please see University of Lübeck contact details by searching Luebeck under medical schools.
